about the studio
The Richardson Guitar Studio offers lessons for guitar, bass, flute, cello, keyboard, drums, banjo and mandolin. We welcome students of all ages and skill levels. Our goal is to help you enjoy music! Our teachers specialize in a wide range of styles, including classical, jazz, rock, blues, funk, country, bluegrass, flamenco and more. We recommend 30-minute weekly lessons for beginners. Intermediate and advanced students may choose 30-minute, 45-minute or 60-minute weekly lessons. We also offer drop-in lessons and ensemble classes for intermediate and advanced students. Studio Director Peter Richardson has been teaching in Charlottesville since 1999. He personally matches each prospective student with a teacher whose skills and style complement the student’s goals. RGS strongly supports students who are interested in sharing their music with the public. We host regular recitals that feature a live, professional backup band, so our students can enjoy a high-quality presentation and improve their performance skills. All our teachers are performers who appear on local stages. The studio is open Monday through Saturday. Lesson times are typically between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Other times may be available upon request.
