Classes can be scheduled weekdays between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The studio is closed on Sundays. When does registration close for the summer session? There's no closing date; classes may continue to form throughout the month of June. The sooner you contact us, the better chance we'll have of forming a group that's just right for you. Give us a call at 434-293-4017 or email peter@richardsonguitar.com if you're interested in a class. How do I know whether I'm beginner, intermediate or advanced? If you've played your instrument for less than a year and you've never played music with a group before, you're probably a beginner. Intermediate applies if you've played for at least a year, you can play some songs, and you can read music or follow some kind of written notation. You're advanced if you've played music with a band before, you can play some difficult songs, and you practice regularly. I'm a total beginner. Can I sign up for band classes? Yes! If you've never taken lessons or played your instrument before, we recommend weekly private lessons in addition to band class. If you prefer not to do both or if you're nervous about jumping right into a group setting, try taking a few private lessons before joining a band class. Do I have to be an advanced musician to take Advanced Band? No. Basic and Advanced classes refer to the amount of material covered and the goals of the class. Advanced classes have longer class meetings and more ambitious expectations, but they are open to intermediate musicians and even beginners who practice regularly. Similarly, advanced musicians are welcome to sign up for Basic classes; those classes may contain a mix of skill levels. What if I'm already in a band? Can we sign up together? Absolutely; we're happy to group friends together. Just let us know when you register. Do you group adults and younger students together in the same bands? The age range for most bands will be no more than 2-3 years. We may sometimes group adults and older teens together in a band if skill levels are compatible, and if we think the personalities will blend well. If this applies to your group, we'll let you know before you confirm your registration. How many people will be in my class? The minimum class size is three students. Band classes will have no more than six students. Music theory and music appreciation classes may have up to 10-12 students. Is my class fee refundable if I change my mind? 10% of the fee is non-refundable once you confirm your registration. The remainder of the fee can be refunded up until the day after the first class meeting. What if I can't make it to a scheduled class? Can I get a refund for that week? Sorry, we don't offer refunds for missed classes. |
